Types and uses of Medical gases
Medical gas refers to the gas used in medical treatment. Mainly used for treatment, anesthesia, driving medical equipment, medical experiments, bacteria, embryo culture. Commonly used gases are: oxygen, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, argon, helium, nitrogen, compressed air and gas mixtures.
Uses of medical gas Oxygen - Oxygen is the essential substance to sustain life, and is used in medical treatment to supplement oxygen to patients suffering from hypoxia. Note that directly counting high-purity oxygen is harmful to the human body, and the concentration of oxygen used for a long time is generally 30%-40%. Oxygen is also used in high-pressure chambers to treat diving sickness, gas poisoning and for drug atomization.
Nitrous oxide - Because people breathe a small amount of this gas, the face will have muscle spasms, smiling expression, so this gas is also called laughing gas. Nitrous oxide and oxygen are used as anesthetic in medicine, but the efficacy of general anesthesia is weak. However, the use of nitrous oxide as anesthetic is only suitable for minor operations such as tooth extraction and surgical suture.
Carbon dioxide - Medically carbon dioxide is used to inflate the abdominal cavity and colon in order to perform laparoscopy and fiber colon exams. It can also be used to grow bacteria in the lab. High pressure carbon dioxide can also be used in cryotherapy, used to treat cataracts, vascular diseases and so on.
Argon - mainly used in medical applications for surgical instruments such as high-frequency argon knives.
Helium - used in medicine for medical devices such as high-frequency helium knives.
Nitrogen - Nitrogen is primarily used to drive medical equipment and tools; Liquid nitrogen is commonly used for cryotherapy in surgery, gynecology, and stomatology.
Compressed air - mainly used for oral instruments, orthopedic instruments, ventilators and other power transmission.
Xenon - In medical applications xenon is mainly used in gas tube CT machines.
Mixed gas - carbon dioxide mixed with oxygen or hydrogen, mainly used for anaerobic bacteria culture; Carbon dioxide mixed with argon, mainly used in brain circulatory system; Medical ternary mixture, mainly used for cell culture and embryo culture, is a common gas in hospital reproductive centers.
